The Next step card at the bottom of the sidebar shows what to do next and how many steps you have finished, for example “2 of 5 done”. Click it to open the full list.
The steps
On a solo workspace, the steps are:
- Add your first client
- Start a project
- Log time or add line items
- Send your first invoice
- Get paid online
If you own a workspace with team members, the list also has Invite your team and A teammate signs in.
A step ticks itself when you do the work. You never have to mark anything done. Creating a client from inside the invoice form counts as adding your first client, and creating a project there counts as starting one.
Open a step
Click any unfinished step. Kiaro opens that page and starts a short tour of two or three stops that point at the fields you need:
| Step | Page | What the tour points at |
|---|---|---|
| Add your first client | New client | Name, email and Save |
| Start a project | New project | Client, billing type and rate, and Save |
| Log time or add line items | Time | Start timer, adding a past entry, and the Billable switch |
| Send your first invoice | New invoice | Client, line items, and saving the draft before you send it |
| Get paid online | Settings → Invoices | Connect Stripe, and what your client sees |
A step only starts its tour when you click it. Press Esc or click the X to leave a tour early. Finished steps show a check and do nothing when clicked.
Your next step
A new workspace with no clients starts at Create your first invoice. The Home cards and the last stop of the tour point at the same step, and the invoice form adds your client as you go. Once you have a client, the card points at the first step you haven’t finished.
Get paid online
This step finishes when you complete Stripe Connect onboarding, so clients can pay your invoices by card from the email or the client portal. It is the last step because it isn’t needed to send an invoice. See Stripe Connect for setup.
Take the tour again
Click Take the tour at the bottom of the card, or open your profile menu and click Take the tour.
Hide the card
The card goes away on its own two days after your workspace is activated. That means you sent your first invoice, or on a team workspace, a teammate signed in. To hide it for good sooner, open the card and click the three dots icon at the top.
Team members
If you joined someone else’s workspace, your card has three steps: see the projects you are on, open an assigned task, and log your first time entry.
